Traffic Improvements
Jacobs Engineering is preparing traffic study for the primary corridor from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Erie Highway to evaluate options for improving traffic flow and enhancing the aesthetics of the corridor. Preliminary options have been developed and reviewed by City staff. Currently, modifications to the alternatives are being evaluated. In addition, secondary corridors of Dayton Street and Maple Avenue are also being investigated to absorb some traffic flow.

Immediately following the completion of the traffic study, detailed design and preparation of construction drawings of the East High Gateway project will be initiated.

Breaking Ground
Due to replacement, upgrading and relocation of utilities, construction will occur in phases with the first expected to begin by the end of this year. It is expected that work will continue through summer 2015. Total estimated project cost is approximately $8.5 million.

Improved Intersection

Although not included in the East High Gateway Improvement Project, the intersection of High Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard will be reconstructed by adding new turn lanes for better traffic flow. The Ohio Department of Transportation awarded the City a Traffic Safety Grant for $2.5 million. With a total project cost over $2.7 million, the City’s contribution will be about $272,000. Construction is anticipated to occur sometime after July 1, 2015.
